5 Books That Have Helped Me Grow Spiritually

I’ve always had a passion for reading, but as I got older it faded away and I put it on the back burner. When I got saved I started reading my Bible again and decided to make use of all the Christian books my parents have. It has been very helpful to my walk with God.

On New Year’s Eve I decided to challenge myself to read 30 books in 2018. There’s 3 months left of this year and I’m currently on book 27. It’s so exciting to set goals and reach them. I’m definitely going to reach 30 before the year is over. I want my readers to share this journey with me. Here are 5 books that have helped me spiritually:

  1. The God Chasers by Tommy Tenney is about relentlessly pursuing God. Teaches you to dive deeper in your relationship with God.

  2. God’s Generals by Roberts Liardon is about God's glory with twelve compelling spiritual biographies of some of the most powerful ministers to ever ignite the fires of revival! We can draw crucial life applications for ourselves from the lives of these mighty warriors.

  3. Not A Fan by Kyle Idleman is about how Jesus never seemed too interested in fans. He was looking for completely committed followers, who were actually willing to sacrifice in order to follow Him. It challenges us to look at what it means to call yourself a Christian and follow the radical call Jesus presents.

  4. Radical by David Platt is about taking back your faith from the American dream. It challenges us to consider how we’ve manipulated the Gospel to fit our cultural preferences and shows what Jesus actually said about being His disciple.

  5. The Weapon Of Prayer by E.M. Bounds is about the importance of prayer:

• Why prayer moves God to act

• Why we need to intercede for others

•Why prayer is essential in God’s Kingdom

• How the early apostles gave themselves to prayer

If you’d like to join me next year I’m challenging myself to read 40 books!
