So many people give their life to Christ and aren’t properly equipped with the knowledge and understanding of what they are committing to. Christ told us to count the cost of following Him (see Luke 14:25-34). Furthermore, we must know and understand what the Bible says so we won’t be deceived.
We are the bride of Christ. In a relationship, people spend time together, not because they’re forced to, but because they desire each other’s presence. It is the same way with God. He desires to spend time with us and we should desire to spend time with Him. (Joshua 1:8 - This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.) We should be reading our Bible daily. The Bible instructs us on how to live a life that’s pleasing to God. FYI: sometimes reading the Bible hurts because it reveals our heart and our heart is wicked. (Hebrews 4:12 - For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.) The Bible is amazing because it tells us about ourselves, not to condemn us, but so we can change and God can continue molding us.
Here are some suggestions on where to start in the Bible as a new believer:
- The Gospels: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John are great books to start within the Bible to learn about Jesus and His life on earth.
- Romans breaks down what salvation is and lets us know that we are no longer bound by the law and slaves to sin.
- Proverbs is a book filled with wisdom and I love it because we need the wisdom to know how to act in every circumstance.
Reading the Bible is essential because it’s important to know the Word of God for yourself. We can have so many people quoting the Bible, but if we don’t know what it says, we’ll believe anything they tell us.
(2 Timothy 2:15- Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.) Many people have been deceived by cults pretending to be followers of Christ, but what they’re teaching isn’t sound Biblical doctrine. We have to remember that Satan is crafty. In some religions, he adds Jesus to it, but there’s no salvation in them. We have to hide the Word in our heart so we know what it says and won’t be deceived.
Have you asked Jesus to be your savior? He's waiting to hear from you:
Admit that you are a sinner. (Romans 3:23- For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.)
Believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and that He is the only way to obtain salvation. (John 3:16- For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life.) (John 14:6- "Jesus answered, I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.")
Confess your sin and faith in Jesus Christ as Lord to others. (1 John 1:9- If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us all unrighteousness.) (Romans 10:9-10- That if you confess with your mouth "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.)
