What Is Prayer?

Prayer is talking to God and letting Him know your heart:

When we have a problem and don't know what to do, we talk to God for the answer; and believe that He will answer us. When one prays; they must first believe that God hears them; You don't have to say big words or long prayers, just speak your heart. Just like you may tell your best friend everything, God wants to hear what you are going through, what you might be worrying about, or just wants to hear your voice.

Remember; Prayer is just speaking what's on your mind and your heart. Always know that God is waiting for you to come to Him and know that He wants to help you. Learn to come to the Lord for the answers before you go to anyone else, the more you go to God, the more you will learn to trust Him.

5 Key Points on prayer:

1. Simply, believe when you pray:

We all need to develop confidence; we need to know that God hears us when we pray and that He will answer. (Mark 11:24-Listen to me! You can pray for anything, and if you believe, you have it; it’s yours!) We can always depend on God to be faithful to do what we ask Him to do, according to His will. (Hebrews 13:6- That is why we can say without any doubt or fear, “The Lord is my Helper, and I am not afraid of anything that mere man can do to me.”) God is our helper.

2. We are a house of prayer:

(Isaiah 56:7- I will bring them also to my holy mountain of Jerusalem and make them full of joy within my House of Prayer. I will accept their sacrifices and offerings, for my Temple shall be called “A House of Prayer for All People”!) We can pray to God within our self, in our heart, openly, or silently, just believe that He hears you when you pray.

3. There is a time for secret prayer:

(Matthew 6:5-6- “And now about prayer. When you pray, don’t be like the hypocrites who pretend piety by praying publicly on street corners and in the synagogues where everyone can see them. Truly, that is all the reward they will ever get.  But when you pray, go away by yourself, all alone, and shut the door behind you and pray to your Father secretly, and your Father, who knows your secrets, will reward you.) Most of our pray life will be done in secret, we don't need to let everybody know how much we pray or everything we pray about. What you do in secret God will openly reward you.

4. Be humble when you pray:

(Luke 18:10-14- “Two men went to the Temple to pray. One was a proud, self-righteous Pharisee, and the other a cheating tax collector. The proud Pharisee ‘prayed’ this prayer: ‘Thank God, I am not a sinner like everyone else, especially like that tax collector over there! For I never cheat, I don’t commit adultery, I go without food twice a week, and I give to God a tenth of everything I earn.’ “But the corrupt tax collector stood at a distance and dared not even lift his eyes to heaven as he prayed, but beat upon his chest in sorrow, exclaiming, ‘God, be merciful to me, a sinner.’ I tell you, this sinner, not the Pharisee, returned home forgiven! For the proud shall be humbled, but the humble shall be honored.”) Prayer needs to come from a humble heart, Jesus taught us by telling us not to pray to be seen of men.

5. Prayer needs to be fervent:

(James 5:16- Admit your faults to one another and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous man has great power and wonderful results.) Fervent means to pray with zeal, a burning desire, believing that God the Father will answer you. Pray with a graceful heart!
