Devotional For The Week Of 6/10/19- Take Heart

(John 14:18- No, I will not abandon you or leave you as orphans in the storm—I will come to you.) When you go through a storm, you won’t be abandoned because Jesus will come to you. In Matthew 14 a storm arose when Jesus commanded the disciples to cross to the other side. Jesus came to them walking on water in the midst of the raging wind and heavy seas. (Matthew 14:27- But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Take heart; it is I. Do not be afraid.”)  The storm didn’t immediately go away when Jesus came but He reassured them that they didn’t need to worry. Sometimes a storm will arise in your life when transitioning into a new season but Jesus promises He won’t abandon you.

There was another time when Jesus commanded His disciples to cross to the other side of the lake and they encountered a storm. High waves began to break into the boat until it was nearly full of water and about to sink. (Mark 4:38-39- But He was in the stern, asleep on the cushion. And they woke Him and said to Him, “Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?” And He awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.)  Jesus slept despite what they were going through because He trusted God. When your trust is in God you will have peace that surpasses all understanding. (Philippians 4:7- And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.) Jesus knew His disciples were going to encounter more storms after He died so He reassured them to take heart. (John 14:27- “I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart! And the peace I give isn’t fragile like the peace the world gives. So don’t be troubled or afraid.) No matter what you go through, you have peace of heart and mind because the peace Jesus gives doesn’t break easily.

“Peace isn’t the absence of problems, it’s the addition of Holy Spirit power in the midst of the problem.” Jesus was there in both storms the disciples encountered. When going through a storm don’t let the storm get in you, you can’t speak peace to the storm if you don’t have peace in you. Keeping your mind on God will get you through any storm you encounter. (Isaiah 26:3- You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you.) (John 16:33- These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.)  Jesus overcame so we could overcome and He’s given us everything we need to have peace no matter what happens. Take heart! Jesus is with you and everything will be fine.
