Devotional For The Week Of 2/11/19- What It Means To Surrender

(Luke 9:23- Jesus said to all of His followers, “If you truly desire to be my disciple, you must disown your life completely, embrace my ‘cross’ as your own, and surrender to my ways.) Surrender is to completely give up your own will and subject your thoughts, ideas, and deeds to the will and teachings of God. Jesus is the perfect example of surrender. (Hebrews 10:7- Then I said, ‘See, I have come to do your will, to lay down my life, just as the Scriptures said that I would.’”) He came from heaven to earth, to do God’s will, by laying down His life, so that those who are spiritually dead could have eternal life. (John 17:4- I have glorified you on the earth by faithfully doing everything you’ve told me to do.)

We are to accept Jesus as Lord and Savior, but many people only accept Him as Savior and don’t allow Him to be Lord over their life. They don’t like the idea of denying themselves to conform to His will. Society and the Word of God will always oppose each other. Society says do what you want to do and God’s Word says give up your life for Him. (Matthew 19:16- Someone came to Jesus with this question: “Good master, what must I do to have eternal life?”) (Matthew 19:21- Jesus told him, “If you want to be perfect, go and sell everything you have and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.”)  When the young man heard this, he went away sadly, for he was very rich. He didn’t want to surrender his will to follow Jesus because he loved his possessions and wasn’t ready to give everything up. He believed that he was blessed, but the real blessings don’t come until you surrender to Him. (Matthew 6:33- But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.)

(Matthew 4:18-22- One day as He was walking along the beach beside the Lake of Galilee, He saw two brothers—Simon, also called Peter, and Andrew—out in a boat fishing with a net, for they were commercial fishermen. Jesus called out, “Come along with me and I will show you how to fish for the souls of men!” And they left their nets at once and went with Him. A little farther up the beach He saw two other brothers, James and John, sitting in a boat with their father, Zebedee, mending their nets; and He called to them to come too. At once they stopped their work and, leaving their father behind, went with Him.) Let God have your life, He can do more with it than you can. The disciples all lived ordinary lives before they made the decision to follow Jesus. When they surrendered all they found out who He made them to be. These 4 disciples found out that they weren’t just fishermen, they were fishers of men and they turned the world upside down.

It can be challenging to surrender your will for God’s, but I can guarantee that it is worth it. I became a brand new person and God revealed His mandate for my life when I finally stopped running and gave up everything to follow Him. Before Christ I felt like life had no purpose and I had no goals or aspirations. Now, I’m walking in His divine will for my life and being the woman of God that He created me to be. I’ve done things I’ve never imagined myself doing and God continues to astound me. (1 Corinthians 2:9- That is what the Scriptures mean when they say, "No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love Him.") Surrender all to God, you won’t regret it!
