Devotional For The Week Of 6/4/18- Experience Is Not The Best Teacher

(1 John 2:15- Stop loving this evil world and all that it offers you, for when you love these things you show that you do not really love God;)

The day you surrender to God is the day your life changes. I grew up in a Christian household, I got saved as a kid, but as I got older I wanted to experience the world for myself. Society tells you that experience is the best teacher and that’s a lie, the greatest teacher you’ll ever have is the Holy Spirit. I was very sheltered growing up and I just wanted freedom and to see what the world had to offer. After many nights of blacking out from alcohol, being addicted to weed, getting an STD, and many other bad things I realized the only thing the world had to offer was damnation. My experiences were bringing me further from God and giving me a one way ticket to hell. I was empty, depressed, lost and just wanted more for myself. I thought I wanted to experience the world, but all it was doing was beating me down. I was chasing temporary highs not realizing the One I left was the One that would satisfy me. When I finally stopped running from God, I felt a burden lift off me. (Psalm 55:22- Give your burdens to the Lord. He will carry them. He will not permit the godly to slip or fall.) It felt so good to give everything to God and feel Him take everything that was weighing me down. I used to be ashamed to tell my story because I didn’t want people to judge me, but I’m no longer bound by the opinions of others. I’m no longer that Monique and I thank God that I don’t look like what I’ve been through. I’m here to encourage you today to stop running from God, surrender and let Him lead your life so it can change for the better. Don’t be afraid to share your story, it may be messy, but God has already cleaned it up.
