Devotional For The Week Of 4/2/18- Build Each Other Up

(1 Thessalonians 5:11- So encourage each other to build each other up, just as you are already doing.)

I’m a firm believer in people encouraging each other. Give that person support that you always see working hard and give that person advice who feels like they should just give up. You never know how one word of encouragement will change someone’s life. (Proverbs 16:24- Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.) I was talking to my friend the other day and giving her some advice and she told me: “I needed that message. Don't ever apologize for what God has put on your heart to say. You just don't know how much it can mean to a person.“ It makes me happy when people tell me how I’ve helped/encouraged them and I mean that in a humble way and always give glory to God. I have to remember that anything that I’m doing is all because of God and I can never take the credit. As Christians we need to understand that we’re here to bring glory to God’s name, whatever talents we have are because God gave them to us. Don’t think you're better than someone else because you can do something that they can’t. Don’t get jealous of someone else because they can do something that you can’t. I want to see more support in the body of Christ. Once we realize that we’re all one body, there would be no looking at what the next person is doing and wishing it were us because we’d be focused on staying in our lane and making sure the body is functioning properly. (Romans 12:4-5- Just as there are many parts to our bodies, so it is with Christ’s body. We are all parts of it, and it takes every one of us to make it complete, for we each have different work to do. So we belong to each other, and each needs all the others.)

I watched the movie I Can Only Imagine On Sunday and that was the best movie I’ve seen in a really long time. It was the perfect day to watch it because it was Resurrection Sunday. One thing it made me think about is how much words affect people. For most of his life Bart was put down by his dad and it affected him until he was a grown man. When we were kids people used to say “sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me” and that’s such a false statement. Even the Bible says that life and death is in the power of the tongue. There are many people who believe they’re failures because someone told them they are. We need to stop believing the devil’s lies about us and start believing God’s truth about us. We need to stop putting each other down but be the ones to uplift, inspire, motivate, cheer on, support and encourage each other. Let's build each other up and plant positive seeds in their life.
