Devotional For The Week Of 4/23/18- Jesus, Our Strong Foundation

(1 Peter 2:4- Come to Christ, who is the living Foundation of Rock upon which God builds; though men have spurned Him, He is very precious to God who has chosen Him above all others.) A foundation is the lowest component of a building, wall, or the like. It is an underlying base or support. If you include Jesus in the definition of foundation it says Jesus is the lowest component of a building, wall, or the like. He is an underlying base or support. If we want to be made whole, we have to come Christ. A solid foundation is essential; any building lacking a strong foundation will fall over. We can’t do this life alone; we need Jesus’s help and support.

The Three Little Pigs is a great example of the importance of a strong foundation. Their first two houses were made of straw and sticks and the wolf blew it down. The third house was made of brick and the wolf was unable to blow it down because it had a strong foundation. The wolf in the story is similar to the devil. The (devil)thief’s purpose is to steal, kill and destroy. (John 10:10) It didn’t matter that the pigs would build another house each time there's got blown away, what mattered was that their house was strong enough to deal with adversity. (Matthew 12:43-45- “This evil nation is like a man possessed by a demon. For if the demon leaves, it goes into the deserts for a while, seeking rest but finding none. Then it says, ‘I will return to the man I came from.’ So it returns and finds the man’s heart clean but empty! Then the demon finds seven other spirits more evil than itself, and all enter the man and live in him. And so he is worse off than before.”) The devil doesn’t give up once you give your life to Christ, he will continue to come back and see if he can knock you down. A Christian that’s empty and has no strong foundation is what the devil’s after.

A Christian that's empty and has no strong foundation is what the devil's after. I used to be a cheerleader and when we did stunts we would always have a base. A base in cheerleading terms is the one that holds the flyer in the air during the stunt. They are responsible for keeping their flyer in the air, as well as making sure she is safe at all times. Often the flyer is the main attraction because of all the cool tricks she performs while in the air and the bases don’t really get much attention. However, without the base there would be no stunt. Jesus is the one who makes sure we’re safe when we’re going through the ups and downs of life. As you grow in Christ you will go through tribulations, but the beauty in it all is knowing that God is our anchor. (Isaiah 41:10- Fear not, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed. I am your God. I will strengthen you; I will help you; I will uphold you with my victorious right hand.) Bases have to hold the flyers up with their hands and that’s exactly what Jesus does with us. He is our base, He keeps us steady and balanced in life. Come to Him [the risen Lord] as to a living Stone which men rejected and threw away, but which is choice and precious in the sight of God. The bases are important to the flyer and the foundation (Jesus) is important to us.
