Devotional For The Week of 3/12/18- Like Christ

(1 John 2:3-6- And how can we be sure that we belong to Him? By looking within ourselves: are we really trying to do what He wants us to? Someone may say, “I am a Christian; I am on my way to heaven; I belong to Christ.” But if he doesn’t do what Christ tells him to, he is a liar. But those who do what Christ tells them to will learn to love God more and more. That is the way to know whether or not you are a Christian. Anyone who says he is a Christian should live as Christ did.)

These 4 verses alone are so powerful. It’s so easy for us to say we’re a Christian, but the real question is are we living like Christ did. A Christian is someone who is Christ-like. People think that because they pray, go to church and are good people they’re Christians, but that is false. I used to pray everyday, go to church every Sunday and do good things, but I was still spiritually dead. Society has made us believe that you can live any kind of way and still be saved, but Jesus said that the only way to Heaven is through Him. I'm pretty sure most people who are reading this have seen Like Mike. The boy Calvin would put on his shoes and say "make me Like Mike" because he wanted to do good on the court like Michael Jordan. As Christians we should pray "make me like Christ" One of my daily confessions (scriptures I meditate on and things I confess over my life) is "Lord give me a heart like you" It's important for us to have a heart like God because God is love. I've noticed that ever since I started saying that daily I've been treating people better. No, I'm not perfect, but I am walking in love more. ( 1 Peter 4:8- Most important of all, continue to show deep love for each other, for love makes up for many of your faults.)

Do you love like Christ loves? He loved us so much that He died for us knowing that not all of us wanted Him our life. Many times we say we love people unconditionally, but once they do something that makes us upset we don’t love them anymore. It’s good to know that God is not like that at all. Unconditional love is affection without any limitations, or love without conditions. God loves us no matter what. (Romans 8:38-39- For I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from His love. Death can’t, and life can’t. The angels won’t, and all the powers of hell itself cannot keep God’s love away. Our fears for today, our worries about tomorrow, or where we are—high above the sky, or in the deepest ocean—nothing will ever be able to separate us from the love of God demonstrated by our Lord Jesus Christ when He died for us.)
