Devotional For The Week Of 10/29/18- Why Gratitude Should Be Practiced Everyday

(Psalm 118:24- This is the day the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it.) Gratitude is so important because it’s only by the grace of God that we are alive. When I wake up in the morning the first thing I do is thank God for another day of life. We set an alarm every night to wake us up in the morning, but it’s God that gives us breath to keep on living.

Growing up we always heard the phrase “count your blessings” which means to be grateful for the good things in our life. When we start counting our blessings we realize that we have a lot to be thankful for. I came across a post on Facebook that said, “What if you woke up today with only the things you thanked God for yesterday?” and I literally stopped what I was doing and thanked God for the things I had. It’s great to be thankful for another day, but what about thanking God for the clothes on your back, a roof over your head, the food you ate today etc. There are some people who have no clothes, place to live or food to eat. It shouldn’t take something tragic to make us thank God, we should do it because He is our Heavenly Father and deserves the praise.

To me, there is no such thing as a bad day because every day is a good day if I’m alive. Some bad things may have happened, but I still have things to be grateful for. (Jeremiah 29:11- For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord. They are plans for good and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.) God has a plan for our life and every day that we wake up is another day for us to continue to do His will for our life. (Ephesians 3:20- Now glory be to God, who by His mighty power at work within us is able to do far more than we would ever dare to ask or even dream of—infinitely beyond our highest prayers, desires, thoughts, or hopes.) We have many goals and aspirations for ourselves but knowing that God’s plans for us are more than we could ever imagine is amazing and we should look forward to each day knowing that our future is great.

I encourage you to fix your thoughts on what is true and good and right. Think about things that are pure and lovely and think about all you can praise God for and be glad about.
