Psalms 49:8-9 - For a soul is far too precious to be ransomed by mere earthly wealth. There is not enough of it in all the earth to buy eternal life for just one soul, to keep it out of hell.
Money can buy pretty much everything, even people sadly. The one thing that money can’t buy is a soul. Our soul is way too valuable to God for it to be bought by money. Unfortunately, many people live like they can take their money with them when they die or as if they can use their riches as a “get out hell free card” like in the game Monopoly. Although people treat life like it’s a game, it’s not. This life is very significant and one day we’ll have to give an account to God for everything we did and ever careless or idle word we speak. (Matthew 12:36- But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken.)
Our souls were destined for destruction the moment when Adam sinned and sin entered the entire human race. We were doomed to hell, but God loved us so much that He came up with a solution. He sent Jesus to die on the cross for our sins and take the punishment that we deserved. Jesus justified us and made us right with God. The only way to be right with God is to accept Him as Lord and Savior and believe that He took away our sins on the cross. (John 14:6- Jesus told him, “I am the Way—yes, and the Truth and the Life. No one can get to the Father except by means of me.)
Because of what Adam did we were born in sin, meaning that from birth we are in bondage. In some stories when people are held captive, the captor demands money for ransom to set them free. The Gospel summed up is this: The devil (captor) has people held captive (souls). Jesus died on the cross for ransom (paid) to set us free. No money was involved in the transaction, only His blood. (1 Peter 1:18-19- God paid a ransom to save you from the impossible road to heaven which your fathers tried to take, and the ransom He paid was not mere gold or silver as you very well know. But He paid for you with the precious lifeblood of Christ, the sinless, spotless Lamb of God.)
You can’t buy your way into heaven, Jesus already paid the price. The question is, will you accept the bargain? Will you walk in the freedom from death and punishment that He provided?
