1. Why is it important to give glory to God?
When God created us, He created us for only one purpose and that’s to bring glory to His name.
2. What stood out to you in this passage?
To the average person this story makes no sense, but to God it does because every person He created has a purpose. The man was born blind so that God could demonstrate His power to bring glory to His name.
I love that Jesus made it know that He was here for God’s glory. He wasn’t focused on pleasing Himself, He was focused on the assignment God gave Him to do. (John 17:4- I brought glory to you here on earth by doing everything you told me to.) Let’s be honest, how many of us as a kid did exactly what our parents told us to do? None of us. We were too worried about doing whatever we wanted and pleasing ourselves. It’s important for us to ask God to give us a heart like Him because He was selfless, He was concerned more with the needs and wishes of others than with His own. When you’re selfless God is able to use you to do mighty works.
If you remove the “H” flesh spelled backwards is self. Our flesh only cares about itself. As believers we should never get prideful and be doing God’s work for self-glorification. We need to remember that we’re here to make Him famous, not ourselves. Also, we should never let people praise us, glory belongs to God.
King Herod accepted the people’s worship and was killed instantly. When people commend me I make sure that I give God the glory for what I do because without Him I am nothing. I’m just a vessel doing what He tells me to do. (Psalm 115:1- Glorify your name, not ours, O Lord! Cause everyone to praise your loving-kindness and your truth.)
If Jesus didn’t accept the praise even though He was worthy of it, who are we to let people praise us. Always give the glory to God, it will always be His.
3. What does having a personal relationship with God mean to you?
As Christians we’re supposed to allow God to lead us so we can be fruitful and bring glory to His name. It’s important for us to remember that if we’re not obeying Him we’re useless. (John 15:6- If anyone separates from me, he is thrown away like a useless branch, withers, and is gathered into a pile with all the others and burned.) (Galatians 6:3- For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself.)We are nothing apart from God.
4. Why do you need God?
We lie to ourselves when we say we don’t need God because without Him in our lives we’re wretched, miserable, blind and naked. The throne Jesus is speaking of in Revelation 3:21 is in heaven and deep down everyone desires to go there. When their family dies even people who claim they don’t believe in God say they’re in a better place and the better place they’re referring to is heaven whether they admit it or not. We can’t say we don’t believe in God and still believe in heaven. (John 14:6- Jesus told him, “I am the Way—yes, and the Truth and the Life. No one can get to the Father except by means of me.) We need to accept Jesus as Lord and Savior to get to heaven. We shouldn’t wait until it’s too late to realize how much we need God.
