Sometimes God uses pain in our lives to bring us back to Him. We are very stubborn and sometimes He has to hurt us in order to get our attention. Sometimes He has to break us down in order to build us back up. When our back is against the wall and everything is going wrong is when reality hits and we realize how much we need our Father.
1. What do you like about the story of the prodigal son?
I love that even though his son wasn’t right for leaving that way, the Father rejoiced and was happy when he came back. That’s exactly how God is with us.
2. What’s one thing you’re looking forward to when you go to heaven?
I love that in heaven there’s no sickness or diseases. The blind will be able to see, the lame will be able to walk and the deaf will be able to hear. One thing I’m looking forward to when I go to heaven is spending eternity with God and having perfect vision. I wear contacts and glasses and I’m grateful for that, but 20/20 vision is definitely something I’m looking forward to. Also there’s no sadness in heaven, just joy. All the stuff we worry about and go through down here doesn’t compare eternity in heaven.
2 Corinthians 5:1-10
3. Why is suffering a good thing?
We shouldn’t look at suffering as a bad thing. It’s good because it makes us trust God more. Pain can turn you to God.
1 Corinthians 5
2 Corinthians 7:1-12
2 Corinthians 1:1-12
When I read stories of the apostles and how they were so bold and never worried about anything because they trusted in the Lord, it encourages me to trust in God no matter what I’m going through. (2 Corinthians 1:6-7- We are in deep trouble for bringing you God’s comfort and salvation. But in our trouble God has comforted us—and this, too, to help you: to show you from our personal experience how God will tenderly comfort you when you undergo these same sufferings. He will give you the strength to endure.)
A lot of times when people are sharing their testimonies about what they went through and how God made a way they say things like “I’m glad I went through that because I learned to trust God even more” or “It strengthened my faith” God uses things that we go through to bring Him glory. The pain is the plan, He will turn that pain into His glory.
4. Check out the video below. What did you think about that?
Even the pain that Jesus went through was for God’s glory.
1 Peter 2:21-24
(Matthew 26:39- He went forward a little, and fell face downward on the ground, and prayed, “My Father! If it is possible, let this cup be taken away from me. But I want your will, not mine.”) (Matthew 26:42- Again he left them and prayed, “My Father! If this cup cannot go away until I drink it all, your will be done.”)
It’s important to read about Jesus’ death and take time to reflect on what He did for us.
This is just a reminder that the pain is the plan. God will use pain in your life to bring you back to Him or make you stronger in your walk. Remember that suffering isn’t a bad thing, it helps us trust in God more.
