Why is it important to submit to God?
(Job 22:21- Submit to God and be at peace with him; in this way prosperity will come to you.) (James 4:7- Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.) Submitting to God means that you surrender your life over to Him. (Listen to I Give Myself Away)
2. (Listen to the song below) What stands out to you in the song?
This song is basically telling us that our life was never our own, and when we give our lives to God, He can use us. People always talk about how they want to be used by God, but they don’t put themselves in a position to. Yes, God can use someone who isn’t saved, I would still talk to people about Him even before I got saved, but if you really want your life to transform for the better, if you really want to help people, give your life to Christ. (Romans 12:1- And so, dear brothers, I plead with you to give your bodies to God. Let them be a living sacrifice, holy—the kind He can accept. When you think of what He has done for you, is this too much to ask?) At church the pastor broke this verse down and said: plead means to make an emotional appeal, “all that the Lord has done for you.”
3. What’s one thing God has done for you?
When you think of all the things God has done for you, all the ways He’s made for you when there was no way, doesn’t that make you want to live for Him? You could’ve been dead right now, but you’re alive, you could’ve been sick right now, but you’re healed. “The kind He will find acceptable.” That doesn’t mean just giving God some of your life, it means to give it all to Him. There are people who went to church every week faithfully who are still in hell. Church is usually about 2-3 hours long and people get the Word and go live opposite to what was preached for the rest of the week. Church doesn’t change you, an encounter with Jesus does. Submitting to God is not just going to church and paying your tithes on Sunday. Tithes mean nothing to God when you don’t obey Him.
Remember that obedience is better than sacrifice.
1 Samuel 15:1-23
A lot of people think they’re doing God a favor by paying their tithes. Read 1 Samuel 15:22 again and replace rams and burnt offerings with tithes. God is more concerned with our obedience than tithes.
Submitting to God also means to submit to your parents. (Colossians 3:20- You children must always obey your fathers and mothers, for that pleases the Lord.) (Ephesians 6:1-3- Children, obey your parents; this is the right thing to do because God has placed them in authority over you. Honor your father and mother. This is the first of God’s Ten Commandments that ends with a promise. And this is the promise: that if you honor your father and mother, yours will be a long life, full of blessing.) God placed your parents over your life for a reason and they have authority over you. When I first gave my life to Christ my mom had me read some of this book called Reclaiming Surrendered Ground by Jim Logan and read the parts about rebellion and authority to show me why my life went downhill when I left home.
“You may not like a lot of what’s happening in our government, but government is better than anarchy.” Just because you don’t agree doesn’t mean you have the right to disobey authority. Just like there are consequences when we disobey natural laws, there are consequences when we disobey spiritual laws. (Romans 13:1- Obey the government, for God is the one who has put it there. There is no government anywhere that God has not placed in power.) (1 Peter 2:13-14- For the Lord’s sake, obey every law of your government: those of the king as head of the state, and those of the king’s officers, for He has sent them to punish all who do wrong, and to honor those who do right.) (Hebrews 13:17- Obey your spiritual leaders and be willing to do what they say. For their work is to watch over your souls, and God will judge them on how well they do this. Give them reason to report joyfully about you to the Lord and not with sorrow, for then you will suffer for it too.)
“When you challenge your spiritual leaders, you’re really challenging God.” That is why you are revolting against Jehovah. (Numbers 16:11 explains that they weren’t going against Moses, but God)
Authority also means protection, it means that someone is in control. When you let God take control of your life, He will protect you.
God as your authority equals your protection.
People choose not to submit to God on earth but (Romans 14:11- For it is written, “As I live,” says the Lord, “every knee shall bow to me and every tongue confess to God.”) and (Philippians 2:10-11- that at the name of Jesus every knee shall bow in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue shall confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.) This is just a reminder to choose now to submit to God, obey your parents because God put them in authority over you and do not despise the government whether you like what they’re doing or not. (Proverbs 11:14- Without wise leadership, a nation is in trouble; but with good counselors there is safety.) (1 Timothy 2:2- Pray in this way for kings and all others who are in authority over us, or are in places of high responsibility, so that we can live in peace and quietness, spending our time in godly living and thinking much about the Lord.) We need to pray for Trump.
