Jesus is and always will be our greatest role model. He showed us how to love, how to treat others, and what we have to do to make it into the Kingdom. One thing I really liked is that Jesus never stressed, He always relied on God to take care of Him.
One thing I've learned during my walk is that there's no reason to stress when you know God will take care of you. I taught a lesson a couple months ago called Faith Not Unbelief talking about how the same God that did xyz for you last week, a month ago etc is the same God who will take care of your situation now. Even though they always complained God took care of the Israelites. If you're a child of God do you really think He won't take care of you? Instead of being like the disciples in that situation don't look at what's in front of you remember what God did for you before and what He'll do for you now.
Every time I read that I really be like wow Jesus was on the boat chilling and the disciples were frantic thinking they were about to die. Like seriously just think about if you were in that situation, like I know everyone can't even swim and I've always thought that drowning is a horrible way to die. Jesus said, "Why were you so fearful? Don't you even have confidence in me?" But let's be real how many times in your life has God thought that about you? While you're stressing over bills, money, a job etc God is just in heaven like if they don't calm down they know I've always taken care of them. And that's literally the mindset that we should have, that God is going to take care of us. I remember right before I got saved and I had ended up in the hospital and I had all these hospital bills to pay and boy was I stressed. Literally each time a bill came I cried because I mean I had a job but I didn't have the money at the time to pay it. I was so stressed out I had anxiety and it was giving me back problems. I thank God for my parents though because they reminded me to have faith and that if I trusted in God I would be okay. I no longer worry about finances anymore.
Just like Jesus said, Peter denied Him three times. If they were going to kill Jesus what do you think they would've done to Peter as His disciple. There are people dying overseas all the time because of Jesus. Ask yourself: Would you claim you serve Jesus if someone told you they'd kill you if you said yes.
We make God these promises and tell Him we will do this and that but when the going gets tough will we still obey? When the going gets tough will we be like Jesus and say Lord let your will be done or give up?
Can you imagine seeing someone sweat blood like whenever I read that I just know Jesus was going through it. He knew He was about to die, but not just die but basically be tortured. He could've easily said "You know what I'm not doing this" And that's why Jesus is the greatest example of love. We weren't good people we were horrible in God's eyes, but God loved us even when we were still sinners and that's the beauty of it all. When the going gets tough we need to continue to be like Jesus.
It's almost like Jesus was care-free, well of course He cared about things but He didn't let anything worry Him. Jesus' main concern was doing God's will for His life. Many times we get so caught up on what's going on down here that we stop thinking about the bigger picture. The bigger picture is heaven, (Colossians 3:2-3-Let heaven fill your thoughts; don’t spend your time worrying about things down here. You should have as little desire for this world as a dead person does. Your real life is in heaven with Christ and God.)
I love the saying "Worry about nothing, pray about everything" Worrying is something we tend to do a lot, but worrying doesn't do us any good. (1 Peter 5:7- Let him have all your worries and cares, for he is always thinking about you and watching everything that concerns you.) (Psalm 55:22-Give your burdens to the Lord. He will carry them. He will not permit the godly to slip or fall.) People don't understand how powerful prayer is. A Christian's most powerful tool is prayer and many people don't realize it. They pray once and get discouraged when they don't see results right away but that's not having faith. So when you pray don't just pray once. P.U.S.H. as people say, pray until something happens.
His prayer was answered the very first day and I'm sure that happened to many of us but because we don't get the answer when we want it we just give up and stop praying but we shouldn't do that.
(James 5:16-18-The earnest prayer of a righteous man has great power and wonderful results.Elijah was as completely human as we are, and yet when he prayed earnestly that no rain would fall, none fell for the next three and a half years! Then he prayed again, this time that it would rain, and down it poured, and the grass turned green and the gardens began to grow again.)
1 Kings 17
"All because of the prayer of one man" Matthew 18:19- if two of you agree down here on earth concerning anything my Father will do it for you" but the prayer of one man caused the sin and moon to stop. Don't let anyone tell you that prayer doesn't work.
(Proverbs 3:5-6- then trust the Lord completely; don’t ever trust yourself. In everything you do, put God first, and He will direct you and crown your efforts with success.) What does is mean to trust the Lord completely? It's not just certain areas of your life, it's in every aspect of it. It's not just trusting Him with your finances, it's trusting Him for you future husband/wife too. A lot of times we say Lord I trust you but once something bad happens we go "how can you do this to me Lord, why would you let this happen" but God isn't the blame for everything and also some things that do happen is just part of God's will for us. It may not seem like it at the time, but God does everything for a reason. Just because something bad happens doesn't mean it's God fault. In the movie The Shack this guy's daughter was kidnapped and killed and for a while He just didn't understand and he was angry until he had an encounter with God. God basically let Him know that every bad thing that happens to someone isn't His fault. Remember that people have free will so everything going on in this world isn't good. There's a lot of bad things happening because the devil is the evil prince of this world. If there was no sin in the world everything would be all peaches and cream but that's not the case because Adam ate the fruit.
Ask yourself: Even when I don't like what God is doing will I still ask Him for His will to be done?
