What’s In Your Life That’s Keeping You Away From God

Mark 4:1-19
So many people have been led away by the attractions of this world and the delights of wealth and the search for success and lure of nice things. A distraction is a thing that prevents someone from giving their full attention to something else. There are so many distractions in this world that it’s easy for someone to miss God or it’s easy for someone to be lured away from God. What does the devil have to give you to keep you away from God? Is it money is it fame? What is it? So many people started off right, God first, God this, God that and then they start teaching false doctrine and they start compromising the Gospel to be people pleasers and they no longer care about what God thinks. (Mark 8:36-37- “And how does a man benefit if he gains the whole world and loses his soul in the process? For is anything worth more than his soul?) Your soul is important. Salvation is important. It’s important not to let the cares of this world keep us from what’s really important: making it into the kingdom.
Luke 10:38-42
Martha was worried about dinner and mad that her sister wasn’t helping, but Mary saw what was important which was listening to what Jesus was saying.

1 Kings 2:1-4
1 Kings 9:1-9
1 Kings 11
So Solomon was doing great at first, he was obeying the Lord and building the temple like he was supposed to. Then Solomon did exactly what the Lord told him not to, he started to worship other gods even though he knew better. This sounds familiar though, how many times does God warn us not to do something and then we go and do exactly that same thing? Don’t get in a relationship with that boy/girl, don’t go to that job I know it pays more but that’s not where I want you, don’t be friends with that person etc. Then when things start going bad, who do we blame? God, but why? God is the one who told you not to do it but you decided to anyway so why are you mad at God? We need to start taking responsibility for our actions and realize that some of the things that happen in our life is our fault.
1 Kings 12
1 Kings 13
People really don’t realize that disobedience is a sin. Solomon’s disobedience led to his kingdom being taken away from him and his family. The prophet’s disobedience led to his death. Jeroboam’s disobedience led to the destruction of his kingdom and the death of all his family. Sometimes sin doesn’t just affect you but the people around you.

One thing we should think about everyday is where our soul is going after we die. Ask yourself: If I died tonight would my soul be going to heaven or hell? Is God pleased with the way I’m living my life? Am I really living my life the way someone who follows Christ should?
2 Corinthians 13:5-11
Romans 12:9-22

Reading the Bible is something that we as Christians should do everyday even if it’s just for 15 minutes spend some time in the Word. The Bible literally tells us how to go about this Christian life, don’t think about it as dos and donts, think about it as being the key to success, the key to making it into the kingdom. From people who obeyed God to people who didn’t obey God all these things in the Bible are examples and just let us know how to be better Christians.

One thing we have to remember is once you become a Christian people start watching you and you ruin your witness doing things that are wrong.
Exodus 2:11-14
So because Moses killed someone when he tried to get on other people about fighting they didn’t want to hear what he had to say. In a way Moses had ruined his witness. If people that aren’t saved see you doing things that they know Christians shouldn’t be doing and then you try to tell them about Christ and being Christlike is anyone really going to listen to you? In their eyes you’re a hypocrite and that’s why a lot of people don’t take Christianity seriously. We ruin our witness when we proclaim the gospel with our mouths while our lives scream that we are of the world. I’m not saying that as Christians we cant do anything I mean sin. If you’re doing what people who aren’t saved do who’s gonna listen to you? (Romans 12:1-2- And so, dear brothers, I plead with you to give your bodies to God. Let them be a living sacrifice, holy—the kind he can accept. When you think of what he has done for you, is this too much to ask? Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but be a new and different person with a fresh newness in all you do and think. Then you will learn from your own experience how his ways will really satisfy you.) And the first thing people always say is no one is perfect which is true but if you’re habitually sinning with no remorse that’s a problem. As Christians we’re supposed to grieve when we hurt God and that’s not just saying sorry when you know you’re gonna do it again. Someone can want to be getting their life together and they’re looking at you but they see you have one foot in the world and one foot out and you can become a hindrance to them getting saved, you can become a distraction in someone’s life.

This is just a reminder to remove the distractions in your life keeping you from seeking God. Ask God to remove anything/anyone that’s hindering you from strengthening your relationship with God. So many people don't think about where they're gonna be spending eternity but this earth is only temporary. You can have the best house, best car, smartest kid but if you go to hell after you die was it even worth it? It's crazy how much distractions there are in the world to keep people from seeking God and that's exactly what the devil wants. Once he knows what you like and what will keep you away from God he will do anything in his power to keep you where you’re at and eventually bring you to hell. Also, don’t think that just because you’ve been delivered from some things doesn’t mean that you can’t still be tempted. (1 Corinthians 10:12-13- So be careful. If you are thinking, “Oh, I would never behave like that”—let this be a warning to you. For you too may fall into sin. But remember this—the wrong desires that come into your life aren’t anything new and different. Many others have faced exactly the same problems before you. And no temptation is irresistible. You can trust God to keep the temptation from becoming so strong that you can’t stand up against it, for he has promised this and will do what he says. He will show you how to escape temptation’s power so that you can bear up patiently against it.)
