The Importance Of A Relationship With God

A relationship with God is the only way to make it into the kingdom, if you don't know God how could you ever make it to heaven? It's not about knowing of God, so many people out here have heard of Him but that's it they don't know Him. You have many acquaintances right but would you call them your friend? No. Why? Because y'all don't really hang out and the only time you may talk to them is if someone else brings them around. So how does God feel about you? If I called God on the phone right now what would He say about you? Would He say you only talk to Him when you need Him? Would He say y'all are very close and spend time with each other everyday? If someone only talked to you when they needed something would you consider them your friend? So why do you think that God is your friend if you barely ever talk to Him.

(Isaiah 1:18-20- Come, let’s talk this over, says the Lord; no matter how deep the stain of your sins, I can take it out and make you as clean as freshly fallen snow. Even if you are stained as red as crimson, I can make you white as wool! If you will only let me help you, if you will only obey, then I will make you rich! But if you keep on turning your backs and refusing to listen to me, you will be killed by your enemies; I, the Lord, have spoken.)

God is on the phone and He's been calling you for a while. He has a message for you and He wants to know how you are doing, but most importantly He wants you to come back home to Him. This is His message "let's talk, I know you've been going through it, I know you've done some things that you're not proud of, but I don't care about all that I just want you to come home to me. I can clean you right up, black or brown I can make you as white as snow." But you don't want to hear His message. You're tired of God calling you when all He wants to do is help you. You treat Him as though He's someone calling you to sell you something, well it's something kinda like that, but instead it's free. God wants to give you freedom, He wants salvation for you. He no longer wants your sins to be counted against you, He doesn't want your burdens weighing you down so why do you keep ignoring His calls? If someone called you and offered you $1 million wouldn't you pick up? Well God's phone call is better than $1 million so stop ignoring His calls and pick up. Stop turning your back on Him and listen to what He has to say, He knows the devil is after you and wants to save you before you ruin your life. Don't be like me, God was calling me for a while but I was running from Him because I didn't want to hear what He had to say. My running from God was only hurting me though. Bad thing after bad thing was happening and I was just tired of it. When I finally answered God's phone call I was relieved. Things finally were looking up for me and I've been answering His calls ever since. Pick up the phone! God is calling.

People think that going to church is just enough but it's not. I used to go to church every Sunday but it was because I was forced to. I knew church was good for me but I didn't want to go. I wasn't even living right and never really got anything from it. I'm not saying that it's not right for unsaved people to go to church, I'm just saying that at some point we need to decide to finally start living for God. People are just so used to going to church because it seems like the right thing to do but never establish their own personal relationship with God. A lot of women go to church but the husband doesn't and thinks because His wife goes to church he's good with God. Kids see their parents saved and think "I'm going to heaven because my parents are saved and I go to church" but that's not how God works. If salvation was based on just going to church I'm sure many people would be saved, but unfortunately the Bible says only few are on the right path. "I pray everyday" "I talk to God" unfortunately praying and talking to God doesn't mean that you have a relationship with Him. I used to pray everyday but I didn't have a relationship with God and would only talk to Him when I needed something, it wasn't a relationship at all.

Judges 11:1-8
Why do we only come to God when we need something? We abandon Him and once things go bad here we come running back to Him. Just think of a superhero, now of course God isn't a superhero He's more than that but God is always there to rescue us. Whenever Israel was in trouble, even though they kept abandoning God He kept right on saving them.
Judges 10

Matthew 15:1-9
People think when you're saved you just have to follow a whole bunch of rules. "I don't want to be tied down to a religion" "it's my life I'll do whatever I want" but they don't realize that we're more free than an unsaved person. I don't like to think of Christianity as a set of rules. Just think about marriage, yes you shouldn't do xyz when you're married but would you think that marriage is just a set of rules to follow? Okay well it's the same way when you have a relationship with God. "Being a Christian is too hard there's too many rules" when you truly love God you'll do whatever to please Him. Just like when you truly love your husband/wife you'll do whatever to please them. And I'm not saying it like we're married to God I'm just giving an example. People have friends/family in their life who aren't even good to them and they can't rely on them if they need something etc. (Proverbs 18:24- There are “friends” who pretend to be friends, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.) We can always rely on God, He is the only one in our life who we can always count on. People will fail you plenty of times, but God never will.

It's really time for us to get serious about our relationship with God. I really like the book of Acts because all the believers were on the same page & they were really one big family. They would sell all their possession for others in need because they knew how to walk in love. I love that they worshipped together regularly everyday.
Acts 2:40-47
Acts 4:32-36
Ephesians 4

If you love the world you cannot be a friend of God too. (James 4:4- You are like an unfaithful wife who loves her husband’s enemies. Don’t you realize that making friends with God’s enemies—the evil pleasures of this world—makes you an enemy of God? I say it again, that if your aim is to enjoy the evil pleasure of the unsaved world, you cannot also be a friend of God.) The Bible tells us not to love the world or anything that the world has to offer. We can't be 50% in the world and 50% with God, it just doesn't work out that way. God wants 100% of our life not just certain parts. It's not just about confessing with our mouth that we are Christians, it's about proving it with our lifestyles. Someone should be able to know that you're saved just by the way you live.
1 John 2:1-17

People don't take God serious enough and I once was that way myself but after experiencing God's love I can't help but to love and obey Him. It's not even just about fearing God it's the fact that God loved me enough to send Jesus to die for me just so I won't have to go to hell. We literally have the key to success and people will still never succeed and I don't mean succeed in this earthly life I mean go to heaven. If our earthly life was all that we had to worry about then there would be no point of living a godly life, but this life is temporary and we won't be here forever. What's important down here is if we did the will of God for our lives. (Ecclesiastes 9:2- That is why men are not more careful to be good but instead choose their own mad course, for they have no hope—there is nothing but death ahead anyway.) Yes there's death ahead but there is hope. Anyone who is a follower of Christ will live again.
1 Corinthians 15

This is just a reminder for us to remember to not just say we have a relationship with God but to actually have one. If someone barely talked to you but said y'all were really close wouldn't you feel some type of way? Well how do you think God feels? Honor Him with your hearts and not just your lips! We have to realize that our relationship with God is more important than anything and if it's not that's a problem. God wants a relationship with you more than you want one with Him. We can say all day long how we wish we were closer to God or had a better relationship with Him but what are we going to do to make it happen? We'll do everything in our power to make sure our friends or bf/gf are taken care of but what about God? Like any friendship you must work at developing your friendship with God.
Isaiah 5:11-22
We brag about so many things that aren't even important but let's brag about things that matter. (1 Corinthians 1:31- As it says in the Scriptures, “If anyone is going to boast, let him boast only of what the Lord has done.”)

If we want a deeper, more intimate connection with God we must desire His friendship more than anything else. Intimate friendship with God is a choice, not an accident. We must intentionally seek it. (James 4:8- And when you draw close to God, God will draw close to you.) I like the saying "you're as close to God as you want to be" If you really wanted a better relationship with God you'd have one, nothing can stop you because God is right there waiting for you.

Ask yourself: Are you really trying to do what God wants you to do?
