Happiness is the state of being happy and joy is a great feeling of pleasure and happiness. Happiness can be taken away but joy comes from God. After I got saved there’s been many times in my life where things haven’t gone my way or I was upset about something, but even in my discontentment I still have joy. I still have joy because I’m a follower of Jesus Christ. I know that my home is heaven, so even though I’m here on earth right now, I have joy knowing that I’m going to be in heaven with my father one day. For the joy of the Lord is your strength. (Nehemiah 8:10)
One person in the Bible who had unshakeable joy was Paul. He went from persecuting Christians to making disciples. After Paul’s encounter with Jesus he went through a lot of stuff. One thing I liked about him was that he was full of joy, no matter what he was going through, he knew what the end goal was, he continued to fight the good fight of faith.
(1 Timothy 6:12- Fight on for God. Hold tightly to the eternal life that God has given you and that you have confessed with such a ringing confession before many witnesses.)
2 Timothy 2:1-15
(2 Timothy 2:4)- and as Christ’s soldier, do not let yourself become tied up in worldly affairs, for then you cannot satisfy the one who has enlisted you in His army.) Even though God satisfies us, we must also make sure that we’re satisfying Him.
2 Timothy 2:19-22
(Ephesians 5:8-10- For though once your heart was full of darkness, now it is full of light from the Lord, and your behavior should show it! Because of this light within you, you should do only what is good and right and true. Learn as you go along what pleases the Lord.) (Romans 8:8- That’s why those who are still under the control of their old sinful selves, bent on following their old evil desires, can never please God.)
Jesus at a young age was about His Father’s business. He knew why He was sent to Earth and He made sure that He did the will of God for His life.
Before we got saved we did our own thing, we did what we wanted to, but after you get saved, your life now belongs to God. It’s so easy to say “Your will Lord, not mine” but when God tells you to do something that you don’t want to do will you still obey Him. (Luke 22:43-44- Then an angel from heaven appeared and strengthened him, for He was in such agony of spirit that He broke into a sweat of blood, with great drops falling to the ground as he prayed more and more earnestly.) Jesus knew He was about to die and what He was feeling was so bad that He was sweating blood. We complain about doing God’s Will because we don’t like what He’s telling us but Jesus had to die for us and He didn’t complain not once.
Satisfaction comes from God alone. A lot of us have many friends and family that love us but there's still something missing and that missing piece is God, with God your life is fulfilled. A life with God is a life fulfilled. I'm not just talking about knowing Him I'm talking about having a personal relationship with Him. God's plan for your life is that you have joy and live life to the full. (John 10:10- The thief's purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.) If you're not satisfied with your life you have to ask yourself if God is in it. Without God in your life you'll never be satisfied, you'll always be wanting more. You ever ask yourself how celebrities be having all the money in the world and still end up bankrupt, it's probably because they don't have God in their life. People look to money to satisfy but it never will, you’ll just keep buying and buying and even with all the stuff you think you want it’s never enough. (Ecclesiastes 5:10- He who loves money shall never have enough. The foolishness of thinking that wealth brings happiness!) All the money in the world is nothing compared to the joy & satisfaction that a life with God gives you.
If the rich youth was satisfied with his life, he wouldn’t have walked away sadly. (Revelation 3:17- You say, ‘I am rich, with everything I want; I don’t need a thing!’ And you don’t realize that spiritually you are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked.
(John 4:14- “But the water I give them,” He said, “becomes a perpetual spring within them, watering them forever with eternal life.”)
(John 4:34- Then Jesus explained: “My nourishment comes from doing the will of God who sent me, and from finishing His work.)
People want to wait until the perfect time to sow into someone’s lives but the perfect time is everyday. Even if you can’t talk to someone at the moment you can pray for God’s Will to be done in their life. (Proverbs 11:30- Godly men are growing a tree that bears life-giving fruit, and all who win souls are wise.) There’s a true joy I get from telling people about Jesus. My favorite day of the week is Thursday because that’s when I have Bible Study. Even if it’s just one person who comes my day is still made because I was able to study the Word with someone. I remember a couple months ago I had a fellowship and I was little discouraged because only 5 people came, but God reassured me that’s it’s not about the number of people that show up, it’s about getting His Word out there. Everyday I pray for God’s Will to be done in my life because on Judgment Day all I want to hear is “well done my good and faithful servant”
As followers of Christ we weren't made to fit in. The problem with trying to fit in is, it’s seeking joy in all the wrong places. You will never be satisfied when you seek joy in the wrong places. Find joy in Christ. Did Jesus ever fit in with the world? No, and neither will His followers because the world does not want to hear the gospel message. The world does not like God’s Word. One thing I had to learn was to stop caring about how others see me and look at how God sees me. People bondage is so real, if you’re always worried about what other people think of you, you will never be satisfied. The only person we are to follow is Christ. Fit out instead. Be the oddball in this godless generation. You will indeed lose friends for Christ, but Christ is your life, not friends. Be yourself and continue to follow the Word of God.
Pastors twists the Bible so they don’t lose members and so more people can like him, but Jesus never did that. People didn’t like the prophets in the Old Testament and they didn’t like Jesus, we can’t expect them to like us either as His followers. That doesn’t mean that you’re just rude and nasty to people for no reason it means that we obey God, not man. It means that we care more about pleasing God than pleasing men.
