As a student one of our favorite things is having a study guide when there’s a test. A study guide is usually a condensed version of all the information you need for an exam or test. Before I got saved I was just “floating” I was lost and I wasn’t really living because I was spiritually dead. I was just taking life day by day and to be honest life felt like deja vu. It just felt like the same routine over and over and I would always think to myself that my life would always be like this. After I got saved I finally realized what my purpose was and life no longer felt like deja vu. I knew what I had to do and I knew there was a prize waiting for me at the end. This life is a test, Christ is the study guide, and heaven is the prize (the good grade). If you don’t have Christ in your life you will fail the test. The reason I was lost before Christ was because I didn’t have my study guide. There’s many times in the Bible when Jesus told people to follow Him. (Matthew 4:19- Jesus called out, “Come along with me and I will show you how to fish for the souls of men!”) (Matthew 16:24- Then Jesus said to the disciples, “If anyone wants to be a follower of mine, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.) (Matthew 19:21- Jesus told him, “If you want to be perfect, go and sell everything you have and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.”)
This life is just a journey and when people are on journeys they usually have a map to make sure they get to their destination. We’re on a journey, Christ is our map and heaven is our destination. Without a map a person is usually lost. If you’re not following Jesus who are you following? We are sheep and Jesus is the Good Shepherd and when we follow Him, we follow Him into eternity.
Jesus is the key that opens the gate to the Father and we are His sheep. (John 14:6- Jesus told him, “I am the Way—yes, and the Truth and the Life. No one can get to the Father except by means of me.) (Matthew 25:32-34- And all the nations shall be gathered before me. And I will separate the people as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats, and place the sheep at my right hand, and the goats at my left.) Sheep are lost with their shepherd and we are lost without God. (Proverbs 3:5- Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.)
We have the keys to the future and the only way to unlock it is with Christ. “People tend to see subsmision to an authority other than their own as a loss of freedom and tell themselves that they have everything they need to successfully control their lives on their own.”
I️ saw a tweet that said “Y’all don’t let God drive, that’s why you’re always lost.” and it’s so true. Until you hand your keys over to God you’ll always be lost and never reach the destination you need to be at. Jesus is the way and if Jesus isn’t driving you’ll be going the wrong way.
(Proverbs 16:9- We should make plans—counting on God to direct us.)
At first I never understood why people said God willing but after I read that it made sense. We make up all these plans and say we’re gonna do xyz but what did God say? What does God want you to do?
Many times we get discouraged and want to give up because we don’t know where God is taking us. Before salvation we made our own choices but when you give your life to God you’re giving Him the keys to the car. It can be very frustrating when you don’t know where God is taking you but remember God knows our future better than we do. (Jeremiah 29:11- For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord. They are plans for good and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.) God’s plans for you are good so why don’t you trust Him? I know God takes us out of our comfort zone but it’s only so that we can grow. This walk with Christ wasn’t meant to be comfortable, a lot of stuff God will want you to do will 9/10 be things you’re not used to, but God knows what He’s doing so take that leap of faith. (Proverbs 20:24- Since the Lord is directing our steps, why try to understand everything that happens along the way?) (1 Peter 1:9- And your further reward for trusting him will be the salvation of your souls.)
Jesus never said that journey would be easy, but He did say that He would be there for us.
This is just a reminder that Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. Christ is our study guide, our map and our driver, so give Him the keys so He can reveal your future to you.
