Come Back To God

For years now all God has wanted us to do is to come back to Him. From Israel to present day God's message is still the same: repent, turn from sin and come back to me. Do you know how much God loves you? Like do you really know? Then why are you still doing the things you know He despises. You say you love God but do you mean it? Do you really love Him? I know everyone here most likely has a Twitter and people are always saying what they feel on a "spiritual level". So why is it that people feel everything on a spiritual level but don't feel God tugging on their heart to come back to Him.

One story I really like in the Bible is The Prodigal Son. My dad used to tell us this story all the time.
Luke 15:11-32
Many people whether they admit it or not were prodigal sons. I was the prodigal son to my parents because I left home and came back and also to God because I left Him and came back to Him. The Prodigal Son is such a great story because the same way that father threw a party when his son came back is the same way God throws a party for us when someone repents and comes back to Him.

Jeremiah 3
God called Israel a faithless wife who leaves her husband. If you’ve read the Old Testament before you’d know that God was truly tired of them. Time after time God would save them and right after they would go and worship idols. Things they had built themselves they’d worship and give offerings to instead of the only true living God. To God that’s a slap in the face especially because the first of the 10 Commandments literally says to put nothing/no one before God and to worship only God. Even though they were adulterers all God wanted us for them to come back to Him. That’s how you know God truly loves us because who is going to stay with someone who keeps cheating on them? People cheat once and the person is like it’s over, but God is not like people. There’s a video on YouTube about a guy who was a devil worshipper and would kill people and cast spells on them etc and God still used him. If God allowed a devil worshipper to come back to Him then He’ll allow anyone else to. It’s not about your past, it’s about what you do with your present. I’ve done a lot of bad things before I got saved but here I am now being used for God. If God can use me with the kind of past I had, He can use anyone. Someone can be a serial killer and still make it into the Kingdom if they repented and changed their life around and someone who’s a liar can still go to heaven if they never repented. It seems unfair right but God doesn’t have big and little sins. All sins are the same to God and that’s what people don’t understand. (Romans 3:26- And now in these days also He can receive sinners in this same way because Jesus took away their sins. But isn’t this unfair for God to let criminals go free, and say that they are innocent? No, for He does it on the basis of their trust in Jesus who took away their sins.)

Luke 15:1-10
God is drawn toward repentance. When a sinner repents, the angels rejoice. Death and repentance bring joy to heaven. It's nice knowing that no matter what we did or how far we've run away from God that all He wants us to do is come back to Him and He welcomes us with open arms. That's why God is truly the best friend that we will ever have. (Proverbs 18:24- There are “friends” who pretend to be friends, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.) You can do a friend wrong and they'll never want to speak to you again, they be ready to fight you etc. Just think about how many times we do God wrong and how much He continues to love us.
1 Peter 2

Don't allow the enemy to use your past against you. When I first got saved the enemy kept attacking my thoughts. He would bring up my past and condemn me to hell. How can you go to heaven when you used to do xyz? How are you forgiven when you used to be such a bad person. It was to the point where I would cry when I got these thoughts because I didn't realize they were coming from Him and I thought God would be upset with me. One of the devil's favorite things to do is attack your thoughts. When they're contrary to what God's Word says you must cast them down. (2 Corinthians 10:5- Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;) If it's not something that God would tell you, cast it down. Let me give a few examples:
* "I can't do this, the task God has given me is too hard." (Hebrews 13:21- Make you perfect in every good work to do His will, working in you that which is wellpleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.) (Philippians 4:13- I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me.)
* "I'll always be worried, I just have too much on my plates. I don't think things will ever get better." (Psalm 55:22- Give your burdens to the Lord. He will carry them. He will not permit the godly to slip or fall.)
* I'm not worthy to be a child of God, I've done too many bad things. (2 Corinthians 5:17- When someone becomes a Christian, he becomes a brand new person inside. He is not the same anymore. A new life has begun!)
You don't have to dwell on thoughts like those, when they do come find you a scripture about what you're going through and meditate on it until you start believing it and it becomes a reality for you. Also, something I do is find a scripture about what I’m going through and make it my home/lock screen so that I’ll see it all the time and be encouraged.

As Christians we are supposed to tell others about the Good News. The Good News that God sent Jesus to die for our sins. When we had no hope, God have us hope. (Romans 5:6-8-When we were utterly helpless, with no way of escape, Christ came at just the right time and died for us sinners who had no use for Him. Even if we were good, we really wouldn’t expect anyone to die for us, though, of course, that might be barely possible. But God showed His great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.)
You don’t have to go to the alter at church to accept Jesus as Lord and Savior. I got saved right at home. I just talked to God and let Him know that I’m ready to do things the right way. I was ready to start living for Him and let Him know that I need deliverance because I couldn’t do it on my own.
Romans 10
2 Corinthians 5:18-22

Many people have just become comfortable with going to church every Sunday and that it's. They get the Word of God for an hour and that's the only time God is even mentioned for the rest of the week. Church has just become a religious thing that people do and they're not even getting anything out of it. When you go to church you're supposed to learn something and what you learn is what you're supposed to apply to your life. How many times do people go to church and then leave and go do exactly what the pastor preached against? A lot.

Remember that when you get saved, you are being saved from hell itself. Before you were on your way there but now as you continue to live for God and obey Him you are on your way to heaven. Before you think about doing something that will upset God think about how far God brought you. Think about what God did for you by sending Jesus. One thing I always remind myself is that I’ve already experienced life without God and it was horrible. If I know how bad it was why would I go back. (Proverbs 26:11- As a dog returns to his vomit, so a fool repeats his folly.)
2 Peter 2
Hebrews 10:26-27- If anyone sins deliberately by rejecting the Savior after knowing the truth of forgiveness, this sin is not covered by Christ’s death; there is no way to get rid of it. There will be nothing to look forward to but the terrible punishment of God’s awful anger, which will consume all his enemies.) So remember that there is no need to go backwards, there’s nothing for you in your past life, you are a new person now. (Genesis 19:24-26- Then the Lord rained down fire and flaming tar from heaven upon Sodom and Gomorrah, and utterly destroyed them, along with the other cities and villages of the plain, eliminating all life—people, plants, and animals alike. But Lot’s wife looked back as she was following along behind him and became a pillar of salt.) Lot’s wife is the perfect example of not loving your past life.

One very important reason why people need to come back to God is because whether people believe it or not Jesus will return.
