(John 15:13- Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.)
Has anyone ever dropped everything to pursue you? Jesus did. What King would leave their throne to save someone? Jesus did. Who would die for all mankind knowing that many would never accept Him? Jesus did. God knew that the only way to redeem us was to send Jesus. Jesus wasn’t forced to come, He came willingly. (John 17:4- I brought glory to you here on earth by doing everything you told me to.)
Jesus told God how He felt, but He didn’t allow His feelings to come before God’s will. Agony is the final stages of a difficult or painful death. Jesus was about to die before He even made it to the cross. At any time Jesus could’ve said, “I can’t do this, this is too much Father” but He came here to do everything God told Him to do. As I was preparing this message I closed my eyes and thought about Jesus walking down a stairwell from heaven to come to earth and put on flesh.
Abraham didn’t withhold his son from God and God didn’t withhold His Son from us. (John 3:16- For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.)
“There’s no way to measure what you’re worth” You can’t measure the greatest love ever shown. In another song of his he says “I’ll never know how much it costs to see my sin up on the cross”
“Like a rose trampled on the ground, you took the fall and thought of me” On the cross He was thinking of everyone. No greater love was shown on the cross. No greater love was shown when Jesus was beaten, ridiculed, and killed for something that He didn’t do. He took our place on the cross for a punishment we deserved.
“You lived to die” It is appointed unto men once to die (Hebrews 9:27), but Jesus came to earth just to die for mankind. (Isaiah 53:10-11- But it was the Lord’s good plan to bruise him and fill him with grief. However, when his soul has been made an offering for sin, then he shall have a multitude of children, many heirs. He shall live again, and God’s program shall prosper in his hands. And when he sees all that is accomplished by the anguish of his soul, he shall be satisfied; and because of what he has experienced, my righteous Servant shall make many to be counted righteous before God, for he shall bear all their sins.)
The greatest love was shown when Jesus laid down His life for us. The greatest love is shown when we give up our lives for Jesus. He gave up His life for us and we should do the same in return. Don’t just give up parts of it and hold onto the things you don’t want to let go. Give it all up, just like He did. (Romans 12:1- I appeal to you therefore, brethren, and beg of you in view of [all] the mercies of God, to make a decisive dedication of your bodies [presenting all your members and faculties] as a living sacrifice, holy (devoted, consecrated) and well pleasing to God, which is your reasonable (rational, intelligent) service and spiritual worship) The Gospel is the greatest love story you’ll ever read, hear and experience because no greater love was shown the day Jesus died on the cross for our sins. Some people have read about the greatest love ever shown, some have heard about the greatest love ever shown and some have experienced it by accepting Jesus as Lord and Savior. If you haven’t, don’t worry, you can choose today to accept Him as Lord and Savior.
